Welcome to Situational Awareness – Personal Safety 101
The world can sometimes feel unpredictable, but your response to it doesn’t have to be.
Welcome to being Aware & Prepared. When most people think about personal safety, they imagine physical self-defense, learning how to throw a punch or break a hold. But the truth is, the most effective self-defense tool you will ever own is your mind. True safety isn’t about fighting; it is about recognizing a bad situation early enough that you can simply walk away before anything happens.
This course is not designed to make you paranoid or afraid of the world. In fact, it will do the exact opposite. By teaching you the science of noticing more, assessing better, and responding earlier, we aim to replace the anxiety of the unknown with quiet, relaxed confidence. You will learn how to read your environment, trust your intuition, and navigate your daily life with the mindset of a hard target.
Who the course is designed for
Who This Course Is Designed For
This course is built for the everyday person. You do not need any prior security experience, military background, or martial arts training. It is specifically designed for:
- Daily Commuters: Navigating public transit, parking garages, and busy city streets.
- Students & Young Adults: Moving across campuses or living independently for the first time.
- Parents & Caregivers: Looking to protect not just themselves, but their families in public spaces.
- Travelers: Anyone exploring new cities or unfamiliar environments who wants to blend in and stay safe.
- Anyone seeking confidence: Individuals who want to stop feeling vulnerable and start feeling in control of their personal space.
What the learner will be able to do after completing the course
By the time you finish this course, you will transition from a passive passenger in your environment to a proactive observer. You will be able to:
- Master your attention: Switch your focus using the “Color Code” to stay alert without feeling stressed or exhausted.
- Project a “Hard Target” persona: Adjust your body language so opportunistic predators instinctively decide to leave you alone.
- Read the room: Establish the “baseline” of any environment (a coffee shop, a street, a subway) and instantly spot the anomalies that don’t belong.
- Trust your gut: Overcome the urge to be “polite” when your intuition is warning you of danger.
- Create safe distance: Use verbal boundaries, physical positioning, and tactical retreats to remove yourself from escalating situations before they turn physical.

Any prerequisites or recommendations before starting
Prerequisites & Recommendations Before Starting
There are no physical prerequisites for this course. You don’t need any special gear or prior training. However, to get the most out of these lessons, we recommend the following:
- Pick a “Familiar Space” As you read through the lessons, think of a specific place you visit regularly, like your local grocery store, your morning train commute, or your favorite coffee shop. Applying these concepts to a place you already know will help the lessons stick.
- Give Yourself Permission: Before you start Module 1, make a promise to yourself. Give yourself permission to prioritize your safety over a stranger’s feelings. If you have ever stayed in a bad situation just because you didn’t want to seem rude, this course will challenge you to change that habit.
